The United States is the second-largest country by total area in North America, and the largest country by land area. Also, it is the fourth largest country in the world. It gained its independence from the United Kingdom of Great Britain on July 4th, 1776.

The largest administrative divisions of the United States are called states. States are further divided into counties, which are then futher divided into counties, which are then divided into cities, towns, villages, and CDPs (Census Designated Places).

It is a constitutional democracy, in which the government is divided into the judicial branch, the executive branch, and the legislative branch.
