Bangladesh is one of the countries in South Asia which is bordered by India and Myanmar (Burma). To its south is the vast Bay of Bengal. It has an area of 148,460 sq.km. It is the 8th most populous country in the world, and has a population of over 160 million people. It gained independence from Pakistan in 1971, though the history of this country dates back to the Mauryan empire.
